Most Asked Questions
What happens if my pet can’t be examined/treated during your visit?
- If your pet cannot be examined or treated due to anxiety, I will prescribe anxiety medication for you to give to your pet prior to my next visit with your pet. In this case, you will be charged for the medication, but not for a new appointment. Once your pet has been examined, you are responsible for any medications, diagnostics, treatments, etc. performed.
- If your pet cannot be examined or treated due to aggression and you indicated the aggression prior to your appointment, I will recommend sedation and/or a muzzle or other restraint for your pet, health willing, and perform the exam/diagnostics/treatments.
- If your pet cannot be examined or treated due to aggression and you DID NOT indicate this aggression prior to your appointment, I will recommend sedation and/or a muzzle or other restraint for your pet, health willing, and perform the exam/diagnostics/treatment.
- If your pet cannot be examined or treated due to aggression and you decline sedation, I will not examine or treat your pet. If I am unable to examine your pet due to aggression and you decline sedation:
I. If you indicated the aggression prior to the appointment, you will receive a refund for your appointment.
II. If you DID NOT indicate the aggression prior to the appointment, you will NOT receive a refund for your appointment.
III. In either case, if you decline sedation/restraint for an aggressive pet, I will not return for another appointment with that pet, but recommend you see a veterinarian in a veterinary clinic.
Why don’t you carry the medication you prescribed to my pet?
Some medications have special ordering/handling/storage requirements. It is easier for me and cheaper for you if I do not keep these medications in stock, but have you order them through an online pharmacy or pick up at a local human pharmacy.
Do you perform in-home euthanasias?
Can I order food/medications through an online pharmacy?
It depends! If I have seen your pet and discussed the issue for which you are requesting a prescription, one may be written at my discretion. Prescription foods are typically discussed during our appointment, but if you have a concern about your pet’s diet, please reach out to me. For prevention (oral or topical flea, tick, and/or heartworm prevention), these can typically be requested via an online pharmacy as long as I’ve seen your pet and your pet has no new health concerns. Medications are only prescribed or authorized for refill if I have seen your pet for the problem and I deem the medication necessary.
Do you see large animals/livestock (horses, cattle, chickens, etc)?
Nope! But I can refer you to a large animal mobile veterinarian!
My pet has an emergency, can you come right away?
- Probably not. I may have same day appointments available, but if you believe your pet is having an emergency, I recommend you visit an emergency veterinary facility (LSU School of Veterinary Medicine or Sherwood South are two options in Baton Rouge).
- Acute vomiting and diarrhea can typically be seen without an emergency visit. However, if your pet has eaten something suspicious, toxic, or foreign, I recommend going to an emergency facility.
- If you are an established patient and I have seen your pet for the emergency it is currently experiencing (ie - acute diarrhea that is now bloody), please do call or email me and I will do my best to get back to you ASAP. I will make time if necessary, or I will recommend visiting an emergency facility.
Do you board pets or pet sit?
No. I am a veterinarian. I make house calls for medical purposes only. I do not have access to a boarding facility. There are many wonderful boarding facilities and pet sitters in Lafayette.
